Cone-beam computed tomography systems (CBCT) is the most highly advanced way to see inside your mouth today! Previously, for your dentist to understand any underlying issues in your mouth, you would have to clamp down on a piece of plastic while a large x-ray camera was pointed at your face. This would have been done for each section of your mouth (the left, right, and front) multiple times to ensure every possible angle in the mouth was captured. Even after the process is complete, there is a chance that the 2Demensional pictures didn’t come through correctly, so they might have to try again. It is time-consuming and uncomfortable for most patients, and now there is a better way!
Understanding Technology We Need to Do Our Job
CBCT gets the information the dentist needs in a much faster and non-invasive way. With this system, a large set of arms rotate around the patient’s head and capture the data using a cone-shaped X-ray beam. After a few moments, the scan is complete, and your provider will have a 3Demensional look of your teeth, jaw, nose, ears, and throat! Compared to the older machines’ flat images, these models make it easier to discover problems in other areas outside of the mouth that may affect your oral health. With the added ability to zoom in, rotate, and generally explore the inside of your face without being inside your face, it’s optimal for all the members of your dental team to best assist you. On top of it all, the radiation you may receive from this procedure is drastically decreased from the older technology and better on the environment.
